Whether you’re buying your first home, moving house or remortgaging you’ll need a solicitor or licensed conveyancer to manage the legal work required.
For mortgages that don’t include free standard legals1, there are a number of options available to you:
You can choose your own solicitor who can also act for the Bank of Ireland, provided they are on the Bank’s approved panel of solicitors. We will let you know if they are on our panel when you make your application.
Or, you can use the legal services offered by our partner Legal Marketing Services (LMS).

LMS manage a panel of 150 contracted law firms nationwide (all of whom are on the Bank’s approved panel of solicitors) and can quickly provide you with a competitive quote. You can benefit from:

LMS also provide a case tracking service, allowing you to keep up to date with developments 24 hours a day.
If you choose to use a solicitor or licensed conveyancer that is not on our approved panel of solicitors and therefore cannot act for us, we will need to appoint a solicitor to act on our behalf as well as the solicitor that you have chosen. In this case the bank will have separate legal representation.
If you choose this option, please be aware that you will be responsible for the cost of the services provided by both solicitors.

1Free legals for remortgages
For remortgages that include standard legal fees, provided they are handled by our partner LMS, we will pay the legal fees and disbursements (excluding additional work) and any additional leasehold charges. If you wish to arrange your own legal representation you’ll be responsible for all legal costs and disbursements.
